The focus of my life is creativity, service, and self-awareness

“I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy.”

Attributed to Rabindranath Tagore

I was born into a family of teachers and counsellors.

My father ran a school for troubled teenagers, and my mother taught every grade from kindergarten through high school in a small, underprivileged border town. In their spare time, they took classes in applied psychology, philosophy, and practical spirituality.

Needless to say, lifelong learning and service are values I hold dear.

However, I found that values alone are not enough unless they can be applied to my daily life to make positive changes for myself and those around me. My relationships to poetry, music, meditation, coaching, teaching, and other forms of creative expression and personal development have been tested and proven through hard times.

Some people see spirituality and science as being at odds with each other. I have found that mythos and logos are equally important to my life. I also know that in order to be truly meaningful, philosophy must ultimately be practical.

In the end, I see my life as a journey of discovery with a mission to do good, and am deeply grateful to everyone who has taught me something along the way.
