My German ancestry at this point is speculative. I fondly recall stories of my Great Aunt Margaret (center) stubbornly refusing to speak German to her elders as a young girl. She would speak English just to spite them. When and where the Brandt and Sears families emigrated from is a mystery. They were protestant, poor, and lived as farmers in the Midwest and Southwest.
